Many dumpling varieties are prepared in all Slovenia gastronomic regions. Cottage cheese filled dumplings are the most common. Dough can be either hand-pulled or fermented. Dumplings can be boiled in salty water, steam boiled or baked in oven. In the past, dumplings were served during various agricultural tasks like sowing, mowing, harvesting and thrashing.
