Flying mush is a witty name for fried chicken thighs and wings. The dish was most popular among the workers (known as fakini) of the port on the Ljubljanica river. They used to have them for lunch at The Golden Boat Inn. “Žganci” made of different kind of flour were the most common and popular dish, often a dish of poverty and survival. As a side dish to mush, especially in the Alpine world, masovnik was enjoyed. Másovnik (máselnik, máslovnik, másunk) is a thick and fatty creamy dish made of boiled sour or sweet cream with boiled flour (white, buckwheat or corn) and eggs.
Másovnik also used to serve as a dressing on “mlinci” and rolled dumplings.
